Surrey Schools Success!!

Caterham U11 Netball squad played in the Surrey School’s Netball Tournament on Wednesday 7th February at Guildford High School. The girls did extremely well in cold conditions to win 4 of their 5 group matches with notable wins over Streatham and Clapham Prep 7-4 and The Study 7-4. Having finished runner’s up in their section, the girls contested a hard fought quarter final match against the winners of group 2, the unbeaten Putney High School. It was end to end Netball throughout the game with both teams demonstrating some fast flowing and skilful match play. Caterham displayed fantastic defensive skills, working hard to break down the opposition’s attacking options. At the final whistle scores were even and a golden goal scenario ensued. Caterham had possession from a back line throw in and moved the ball with precision and pace down the court in 4 passes and secured victory with a calm and accurate shooting opportunity- final score 6-5. The semi-final was another exciting affair as we were matched against St Hilary’s, a highly competent team who had already beaten us in the group stages. Undaunted the girls continued to play with great commitment and effort and secured a magnificent 5-2 victory to secure a place in the Surrey School’s U11 Netball final. Despite Caterham’s best efforts Hoe Bridge were simply too strong and impressive on the day and earned a well-deserved 8-2 victory and the winner’s trophy. Huge congratulations must go to all the girls who took part, as their team effort and support for each other at crucial moments was fantastic. Finishing in runners up position out of 25 highly competitive Surrey schools is an outstanding result and bodes well for our young players’ future netball careers. Well done Caterham!!
